Presentation Format: graphical organizer
Present to the class a time line (using a graphical organizer) outlining the major events leading up to the tragic end to Earnest Shakleton's Antarctic expedition. Then ask your peers to redraw the timeline using a different set of events that would result in the team making decisions which see them making it to the South Pole and back home. Once you have discovered these facts ask your classmates the same question BUT get them to give a reason for their answer. It is important to have reasons for the things we believe (our theories!). Present your results as a television news report.

4. Aztec Graffiti

Presentation Format: Poem Use the site: http://mayankids.com/sitelite.htm or http://www.halfmoon.org/ You have been transported back to the Aztec culture and you find yourself sitting in the public toilets. You look around and on the walls there is graffiti everywhere. Apart from some rude things that we don't wish to discuss, there is a 7 line poem about the upcoming birthday of a poor 10 year old farm labourer.
Try and visualise what the poem would say Write it as if you were the author. Remember he is poor and not very well educated. You can make it serious or funny, and it may include his hopes for the future, what presents he may get for his birthday, what he will eat to celebrate this day . . . . .
5. Egyptian Chatroom

Presentation Format: Radio interview Habakuk Habakkuk is a 12 year- old boy living in Egypt during the time when Tutankhamen was king. Tutankhamen was a young king and Habakkuk and the king play board games for one hour a day. List three topics that they may talk about while playing. Next to each topic write three comments one or either of the players might make about the subjects they are discussing.

6. Art Cop

11. German 1
Year level 6-8 Time for this activity is 50 minutes
Presentation Format: Present the results of the questionnaire to the class as a television news item
The task here is to develop a feedback questionnaire that can be given to German tourists when they visit New Zealand.. You will ask your class peers to propose ten relevant questions (In English). For your final task find three German speaking people who can assess your attempts.

17. Bears

Presentation Format: Power Point Construct a "Diary of a Bear" making 10 entries over the course of a day in the life of a bear. 18. Save the Rhino

23. Keeping Brazil Green!

Deforestation in Brazil is a major issue as you can see from these images available at http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/Human_Dimensions/Environmental_Impacts/Deforestation.html Use the images to stimulate class discussion on ways in which Brazil could reduce the current mass destruction of its forests. Keep an electronic record of the discussion by listing the suggestions, or use Inspiration to make a mind map of the discussion.

Make a comparison between pirates who hoisted the Jolly Roger and robbed ships at sea, and software pirates who make copies of software to sell cheaply. Identify two similarities and two differences between these two types of pirate. Using ideas/imagery from ship-bound pirates, prepare a 15 second radio jingle that you can use to discourage the class from using pirated software.

28. Funny Face

Presentation Format: tutorial A caricature is a drawing in which the subject's distinctive features (large nose etc.), or peculiarities (they are always smiling etc.), are deliberately exaggerated to produce a comic effect. Compose a set of drawings that illustrates to your peers how to do a step- by -step caricature drawing of a person known to you all (not your teachers!). 38. News Desk!

Presentation Format: news presentation

Using PowerPoint or similar software create two news items to present to your class using the site http://fyi.cnn.com/fyi/ . Make sure the images you use assist the viewer to understand the story you are reporting on. You can get images from other sites if you need to. The focus on your presentation is the use of your voice. A newsreader needs to be credible and authoritative! Use your voice very precisely and enunciate (make sure the words are clear!) each word before starting to say the next. Note the difference in style between Jim (the weather man and Richard Long/Judy Bailey!)
39. Anti-Advertising Advertising
Year level 4-8 Time for this activity is 40-50 minutes
Presentation Format: television commercial Select a visual advert from this site http://www.badvertising.org/ that can be turned into a TV commercial. Use the image as a background and write a short 10-15 second script to accompany it. Use the members of your team to act out the commercial to the rest of the class.
40. CPR
Year level 4-8 Time for this activity is 30-40 minutes
Presentation Format: It is important that students can apply the principles of CPR if required. Using this site http://www.amherst.edu/~jaloduca/cpr.html put together a series of PowerPoint slides that will enable you to instruct students on the basics of this procedure. If a mannequin is available you can use this to demonstrate CPR to your peers.

Presentation Format: tutorial Understanding how to add, subtract, divide and multiply is very important. You can download this program from http://www.dep.anl.gov/aattack.htm and then make sure you feel confident with it. Now present a collection of questions to the rest of your class. When they have completed the exercise get them to exchange papers and provide them with the correct answers so that they can mark each other's work.

Move down to "Learn About the Problem" section and carry out the activity before presenting the same problem to your classmates. You will need to introduce the topic before they look for a solution to the problem.

As an extension exercise you may want to explain the term "media literacy" and give some examples of its importance in this context.
45. Blooms Day Out

In his most famous work, Ulysses, the author James Joyce describes a day in the life of Leopold Bloom, from 8 a.m., when we witness him preparing kidneys for his breakfast, to 2 o'clock the following morning, when he returns home from his travels around the city. Read the introduction at this site http://www.riverdeep.net/current/2002/06/061702_bloomsday.jhtml down to the place where you can listen to excerpts from the book. Introducing the same detail, write a passage about a day in the life of one of your team. Limit it to 4-5 paragraphs but make it detailed. Introduce the idea to your classmates and then have them do the same.

47. Holidaying in Space

The idea of holidays in space has been around for a long time but now it is a real possibility but at a huge cost. Read the article at http://www.riverdeep.net/current/2002/04/042902_spacetourists.jhtml and then create a promotional presentation for your new company "Space Dreams". Try and entice your audience to book NOW as there is limited space on your rocket plane. Describe what they will see and experience, and the advantages to be gained from this experience. If you have time you may want to design and print some tickets.
48. Fierce Creatures: Piranhas
Year level 3-7 Time for this activity is 45-50 minutes

Present a short skit/advert to your class telling them how Piranhas make great pets and that every home should have one. In your presentation tell the class facts about this fierce fish, including what they eat, how to care for them and some tricks you can teach them.
49. Yellow Eyed Penguins
Year level 2-6 Time for this activity is 45-50 minutes
You have been asked to erect a sign to warn visitors about the Yellow Eyed penguins that live in Stewart Island. The sign needs to tell visitors about these threatened animals and how to limit human effects on them, as well as providing breeding information, and listing animals that threaten them. 50. My Pet Frog
Year level 2-4 Time for this activity is 45-50 minutes
Using the site http://allaboutfrogs.org/info/doctor/first.html design and produce a brochure about looking after a pet frog. Present your brochure to your class and get them to submit in writing, questions about frogs. Then go to http://allaboutfrogs.org/info/doctor/common.html and find the answers, which you can then write on the question sheets and "post" them to the people who asked the question.
