"
. . . . . . .and now for the news"
Almost
every news reader!
To reinforce the
thinking strategies outlined in this site we encourage the development
of the "News Desk" concept in tandem with the development
of MicroQuests..
The NewsDesk requires
- access to an
Internet connected computer
- the setting up
of a "newsdesk" as you would see on a television network
station (use some MDF to make a kidney shaped table
top with a small "riser" at the front to hide keyboard and
notes).
To
run the "NewsDesk" teachers provide students with a suitable
microquest and they research
the task and then on its completion (45-50minutes) they move to the
NewsDesk to present their newly learnt concepts. The presentation is
usually 3-7minutes in duration.
Students also need
to be taught presentation skills so that they can "teach"
their peers successfully. Presentation scenarios include:
- radio interviews
with a guest
- short debates
- tutorials
- PowerPoint
style slide presentations
- web site
presentations
- television
interviews
- short plays/skits
- news service
presentation
- mini-workshops
- graphic organizers
- mock trial
- make a short
video
- Design a
