The
second storm:
Curriculum & Teaching Pedagogy
|
To provide a curriculum
framework that allows for the development of knowledge-age capabilities
and with an emphasis on powerful learning and powerful assessment.
That teachers and administrators are made fully aware, in an ongoing
manner, of the teaching practices that will be necessary to facilitate
the development of these skills and knowledge bases in our schools.
This capability
will include:
-
Curriculum
Development: Curriculum reinvigoration and reframing
processes are being undertaken and revised curriculum frameworks based
on the new balance between skills and knowledge (that our students
need in order to be successful 21st C citizens) are being developed
that will empower students to contribute successfully to their communities.
-
National
Assessment: Most National Assessment programmes
continue their natural evolution to allow the effective assessment
of 21st
Century capabilities, knowledge
bases and attitudes, taking into account local knowledge and skill
needs. The technical infrastructure should be put in place. This includes
affordable filtered high speed internet as well as every school having
a robust and efficient school network.
-
Accreditation
of student management systems: In order for
schools and the Dept of Education/MoE to communicate more effectively
and efficiently the Department/MoE will be putting in place accreditation
processes for all Student Management Systems, intranets/cluster extranets/knowledge
nets/ and teacher planning tools (akona et al.). These will all have
to meet interoperability and performance standards. Where present
systems do not meet standards, arrangements will need to be made for
schools to make the transition to those systems/packages that do meet
the standards, and do so in manner that is affordable and timely.
